Termite Inspections
With most of yesterday’s and today’s homes being built with lumber, it is estimated that termites alone cause about $30 billion in damage to man-made structures per year.
Some damage is obvious…
Some, not so obvious!
Unfortunately, termites aren’t the only organisms causing damage to homes! Some other insects to look out for are:
Powderpost Beetles
Carpenter Ants
Carpenter Bees
What is a WDI Inspection?
A wood destroying insect (WDI) inspection, also commonly known as a “termite” inspection is an evaluation of the home for evidence of past or ongoing infestation by organisms that consume or nest in wood. Most infestations occur due to elevated moisture levels and can be prevented, which is why it is important to hire the right inspector that knows what to look for and can consult with you on how to try and prevent these pests from being attracted to your home altogether.
If you are a homebuyer taking advantage of a Veteran’s Affairs (VA) loan program, it is required to obtain an NPMA-33 form during your underwriting process. As your InterNACHI certified WDO inspectors, we can help with that! A common misconception is that the seller is supposed to pay for this inspection on your behalf. This is from a previous regulation which did not allow the borrower to pay. This regulation was updated in June of 2022. You can still ask your agent if the seller, listing agent, or lender, is willing to pay! Thank you for your service.
