A deck is a great area for spending time with friends, relaxing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Unfortunately, it is also a great place for getting hurt. Every year there are numerous accidents involving decks. A major issue is when a deck doesn’t have good support and collapses under the weight of the people and items that are on top of it. If you do the math, the weight can quickly add up if you have a handful of people, a full hot-tub as well as furniture on the deck. To avoid disaster, it is important that there is proper support under the deck and that it is set on a stable surface.
Another common danger is when several people are leaning on the railing at once. This could lead to the railing giving way and everyone falling off the deck. This could be especially dangerous with a deck that has a big drop below it.
