When you are considering a remodel of your home, there is an important question that you should first ask yourself – Why am I doing this?
While you might have gotten inspiration from a tv show or seeing some friend’s or neighbor’s home, that is most likely not your motivation. Usually, the motivation will be one of two things. You either want your home to look better for yourself and your family, or you are expecting to sell your home soon and want to make a better profit. However, if your motivation is the second reason, you might want to reconsider.
According to one estimate, only 50-80% of the money that you spend on a remodel is reflected in an increased sale price. This means that a large part of what you spend on your remodel is wasted. If you choose to do something that is much less costly but still makes a big impact you are more likely to make a profit. Painting and landscaping are very solid choices to improve the appearance and sale price of your home.
